Dear Parents/Guardians,
Your child is in my math class this year. Being on block schedule allows students a day between classes to get extra help. The day between classes is also for getting make up work when the student is absent. Your child must stay up to date with their math in order to be successful.
Math tutoring is available: Monday – Friday at 8:15am
and
Monday - Thursday at 3:45pm.
Please come prepared with questions, time is limited and there will be other students besides yourself.
GUIDELINES FOR CLASS:
1. No LATE work is accepted. Use the day in between classes to stay up with your work.
2. No EXTRA CREDIT is given outside of any extra problems available on a graded paper.
3. Your child will have access to the week’s expectation at the beginning of each week.
4. District policy allows one day for each day absent in order to make up work.
5. I do NOT accept ink. Pencil and paper are a MUST.
6. ALL WORK/PROCESS must be shown, or there will be no credit given.
7. I do NOT make up quizzes. The next major test will fill in for the quiz grade.
8. Students are responsible for checking the “odd” numbered problems in the back of the book.
9. Some of the homework will be graded for process and some every single problem.
10. Students in Pre-Calculus class need access to a graphing calculator (only when directed by the teacher). If a CD/Flashdrive is brought, I can download the calculator for the student. Most of the work we do is completed by hand (without any help from the calculator). I recommend a 4 function calculator for those rare occasions.
11. School policy forbids cell phones and other electronic devices in class (excluding calculators). Therefore, all purses and backpacks will be stored on the floor/under the desk. If a picture needs to be taken of the text that student does not have, permission from the teacher needs to be obtained first.
12. Students involved in extracurricular activities need to let me know ahead of time when they will miss class. This way I can provide assignments in order to keep them from getting behind. The rigor is fast and it will be hard to catch up.
13. Discipline: 1) Verbal Warning, 2) Private conference, 3) Parent Contact, 4) Referral.
14. Grades are averaged according to the following percentages:
Major Assessments - 50%
Quizzes – 30%
Assignments – 20%
15. Supplies:
You are responsible for bringing:
Kleenex –if you are in the 2nd and 5th periods,
Clorox wipes – if you are in the 3rd and 6th periods,
Scissors (safety, please) - if you are in the 4th period,
Germ X - if you are in the 7th period
as a part of your supplies. You will also need a composition book (for notes) and a regular college ruled notebook or loose leaf paper and about a 1 inch binder (for homework). Please have pencils, a ruler, colored pencils or markers if you like color in your notes.
Conferences can be done through e-mail or set up by the office staff. My e-mail is: [[email protected]]. If you call the school at 915-236-2200, the secretary will set up a conference for you.
REMINDER: PARENT PORTAL is a great way to keep up with student progress. You and your child can now set it up at home and both of you have a different account. Log onto www.episd.org to register (click on "parent portal" or "student portal").
Thank you in advance for your cooperation this school year,
